The Natural Hair Movement has taken South Africa by storm.
What makes this movement so powerful is, in my opinion, that women empower each other. I love it. There is something magical about the way naturalistas carry themselves. Their confidence about their natural hair infects and empowers others to so the same. I mean, have you ever been at a natural hair expo? Everyone is friendly and laughing and celebrating their own journeys. Women here encourage others to not give up on their journeys, give advice on hair products and just generally hang out. It makes me really proud to be part of them.
But it still happens that these women are not celebrated enough for going against the still-conventional standards of beauty. For some reason, women with natural hair have decided to redefine what beautiful really is. And this I find admirable.
During the months of July and August, I will be featuring some of these naturalistas I admire so much in a series called “Love That ‘Fro, Vrou!!!” Some of these women I’ve known for years, while others I’ve only known for a few months. (Two of them I
stalked followed on Instagram for a few weeks before making contact). But all of them have one thing in common: in their own way they are natural hair ambassadors.
This series will be my way of honouring celebrating these women and their crowning glories. It also aims to encourage newbie naturals to continue on their journey to stronger and healthier hair. I want to thank these beautiful women in advance for their contribution.
See you around…
PS If you would like to be featured in the Love that ‘Fro, Vrou!!! Series, please drop me a line. I would love to hear from you.
